This Australia Day, Our Cellar Door Turns Ten.
On Australia Day 2012 we opened our Cellar Door to the public. Ten years on, we have grown exponentially.
In the beginning, our venue was a humble space just for tastings with very little food offering. Most tastings were conducted around a large table in the cellar door. We were open just five days per week and mainly staffed single-handed by Cheryl Butcher, with Greg helping when he had a break from other duties. They laid a great foundation for the future business.
At that stage, we only had six wines, whereas today we sell 26 Soumah branded wines across 12 grape varieties including some rare Italian varieties, plus we import 16 northern Italian wines, and our cellar door and restaurant is staffed by a wine-loving team of 15. The cellar door is a hub of activity with three distinct tasting rooms, a very popular Italian Trattoria serving lunch every day and our unique Merenda on weekend afternoons.
