MASTERCLASS SERIES 2022: June Session | 6×6 Wine & Chocolate

It’s time to pair up two of life’s greatest indulgences!

Wine and chocolate are similar in many ways; they are both considered aphrodisiacs and they both contain antioxidants. Despite the commonalities, they can be difficult to pair.

We have picked one of our favourite chocolate brands, Haigh’s Chocolates, to showcase six examples in 30 minutes that work in unison. Our team tasted, tested and selected the following combinations to share with you:

On the Tasting List
———————————————

2020 Single Vineyard Blanc de Blanc, $29
Aromas of sherbet and citrus abound with hints of grapefruit and tropical notes. Some complexity on the front palate with the tingle of mineral acidity balanced by sweet, stone fruit flavours. The finish is dry and crisp with some textural aspects from the secondary fermentation.
THE CHOCOLATE: Haigh’s Milk Ginger

2021 Single Vineyard Hexham Chardonnay, $40
Delicate yet complex citrus bouquet is supported by ‘struck match’ and brioche character. A zesty melon palate is integrated with subtle new oak and silky creaminess, finishing long and fresh.
THE CHOCOLATE: Haigh’s Milk Honeycomb

2021 Single Vineyard Hexham Pinot Noir, $40
Bright, cherry and raspberry aromas are supported by a palate of brooding dark fruit and deep earthy flavours. Elegantly balanced on the palate of soft tannins and subtle spice with a lengthy finish.
THE CHOCOLATE: Haigh’s Milk Salted Macadamia Crunch

2021 Barbera Nebbiolo d’Soumah, $28
A savoury elegant red wine with soft fruit and charming length. The Nebbiolo brings excellent tannin and finesse with aromas of wild herbs and violets, while the Barbera compliments with ripe red berry fruit and velvet mouthfeel.
THE CHOCOLATE: Haigh’s Dark Acai Berry

2020 Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, $40
Classic Yarra Valley aromas of lifted black currants and dark plums are balanced by a herbal edge. Silky tannins and a rich mouthfeel of dark, brooding fruit with integrated supple oak adds power and a lengthy finish.
THE CHOCOLATE: Haigh’s Australian Single Origin Milk Chocolate

2021 Single Vineyard Brachetto Tranquillo, $32
The sweetness of this wine is from natural fruit sugars that remain after we stop fermentation before the wine is completely dry. We are left with a delightfully still, dessert style wine that is a little lower in alcohol and finishes fresh and clean with flavours of rosewater and strawberries.
THE CHOCOLATE: Haigh’s Central American Spiced Milk Chocolate
