2017 Soumah Chardonnay d’Soumah

We pick Chardonnay as early as we can to ensure we retain a fresh line of citrus fruit and crisp natural acidity on the palate. We develop structure by predominantly barrel fermenting the juice and allowing it mature gracefully for eight months, before bottling a wine with balanced weight and silky texture.

Serve the wine nicely chilled and it will be an excellent accompaniment with seafood and chicken dishes along with pasta and salads.

‘A new age, citrus crisp Chardonnay with texture and finesse.’

The 2017 vintage began with a wetter than normal spring delivering a good water table for the season. The temperatures were cooler than the most recent years and closer to the long term average. This set up for a late harvest than we have been experiencing allowing the fruit to gently ripen in the summer breeze developing savoury complexity while retaining good natural acidity.

Our d’Soumah range of wines are made with fruit sourced from our own and other premium vineyards throughout the Yarra Valley to produce wines of distinct character and finesse that our region has become famous.

Chardonnay is the most famous whites from the Yarra Valley and is one of the best regions in Australia for producing new age, linear fresh wines.

Our d’Soumah range is built to deliver an exceptional price for value proposition and we believe this wine certainly delivers on that promise.

Picked early to retain citrusy fruit and crisp acidity. Barrel fermented and aged for eight months to develop texture. A really good drink – well done Soumah team. Tangy lime and shades of green apple. White stonefruit pins this wine together but very much taking a back seat. Flashes of Cashew nuttiness with a faint match stick peering through. Soft ginger like spice is met by lemony sherbet and grapefruit acid tang to finish. Quite a refreshing and easy drinking type. Drink now to three years.”
