2019 Cabernet Merlot d'Soumah


An elegant Cabernet Merlot displaying prominent blackcurrant fruit flavours combined with dark plums and hints of tobacco and cedar. The structure and fine tannins from the Merlot add a charming softness, while the smooth and savoury finish is characteristic of the Yarra Valley.

Spring 2018 started dry and cold with rain coming late. The four weeks from late-November to mid-December witnessed 175mm of rain. A godsend in hindsight, as we experienced the driest summer in our records with less than 50mm of rain from late-December through February. Combine this with a hotter than normal summer pattern, the vintage developed into a perfect season for Cabernet and Merlot, allowing them to develop full fruit flavour while a maintaining a soft tannin structure.
