2023 Single Vineyard Hexham Marzemino

Marzemino is native of Trentino in Northern Italy and is genetically a cousin of Syrah. It has large bunches and ripens very late. The wine has a very dark tint and light cherry and plum fruit flavours. It was Amadeus Mozart’s favourite so that gives it quite a nod!

“Notes of chocolate, prunes and leather make way for a ripe core. Savoury oak flavours take the lead and it pulls up quickly. Tannins on the finish curtail the ripe core. 86 Points”
Gabrielle Poy, The Real Review, December 2023 [2022 Vintage].

“A very good iteration of a Veneto thirst-slaker. Succulent red cherry, pine resin and alpine amaro notes, melded with Aussie ripeness. Yet this is barely mid-weighted, despite being impeccably ripe and gloriously fresh. A thoroughly impressive release. Drink or hold. 92 Points”
Ned Goodwin, jamessuckling.com, December 2023 [2022 Vintage].
“I know very little about this variety, other than that it hails from north-east Italy. It’s late ripening, and is a relative of shiraz, apparently. It’s fragrant and fruity, garden herbs and cherry-plum, the nose effusively scented, the palate then lighter than expected, mouthwatering almost, showing both boysenberries and raisins, dust and herbs. This wine is interesting, and refreshing, if not compelling.88 Points”
Campbell Mattinson, winefront.com.au, November 2023 [2022 Vintage].
